Residential Plumbing Tips To Help Live A Greener and Healthier Life
As part of our commitment to a greener and cleaner environment, Harvey W. Hottel, Inc. has formed the Hottel Energy Group. This division of our company is concentrated on geothermal heating & cooling, solar energy, and LEED certified green building design. We recognize that the average Maryland, Washington DC, or Northern Virginia resident may not be able to incorporate solar or geothermal energy into their lives. In order to respond the demand for greener living, Harvey W. Hotel has comprised a list of tips to live a greener and healthy life this summer.
The leading cause of pollution within the United States is runoff. The main source of runoff is residential communities due in major part to improper drainage. Most homes expel waste through two distinctly different drainage systems. Most homeowners are aware of the drainage system located at the bottom of the fall pipes from rain gutters. The other drainage system, least known by homeowners, is connected directly to the main sewage system. Waste emptied into the main sewage system is transported to treatment facilities where it is processed.
Unrenowned to many homeowners, these lines can be mixed up/or shared. Common home appliances such as washing machines, dishwashers, sinks, baths, and toilets produce waste that has proven to be extremely detrimental to our environment overtime. Traces of waste from these appliances have been known to dump into the gutter drainage system, making their way into the soil and eventually into the surrounding rivers. Imagine traces of waste from your bath and toilet being found in the local rivers and streams. Dumping of this nature is illegal and the responsibility falls on the responsibility of the homeowner.
The technicians employed by Harvey W. Hottel Inc. are fully aware and familiar with the local health codes of all Washington DC area counties including Montgomery County Maryland and Fairfax County, Virginia. Contact us today to schedule an appointment for a full drainage system inspection. Harvey W. Hottel Energy Group can help you design a system that is great for the environment and great for your health.
